Small Aircraft Hanger Expansion

21 Jan Small Aircraft Hanger Expansion

The Problem

Long, narrow building proposed for site would require a large amount of excavation and haul off to accommodate the new flat slab. The existing terrain was relatively steep and no other location was appropriate.

Project

Spinks Airport – Small Aircraft Hanger Expansion

The Solution

I asked the airport officials and some aviation consultants if it would be possible to build the new hanger at a slight slope (1-2%) without causing any mechanical issues. Hearing none, I asked the metal building contractor if it would cost the client anything extra. Although nobody had ever done this before, we received the green light to proceed.

Result

The client saved a lot of time and money on the excavation. Because of the new implemented slope, we did not need to install supplemental underground storm drainage systems. The overall cost savings was significant.
